We've managed to dry out two jacks...but it was all luck, really. Unfortunately the squirrels got to this guy yesterday, so he'll be going into our jacko cemetery in the corner of the backyard. :(
I'm working on one now. It goes from drying in the back of my truck on sunny days to fans in the garage at night. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
...that country where it is always turning late in the year. That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noons go quickly, dusks and twilights linger, and midnights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal-bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun. That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain...

I've been wondering about that lately. Like if there is a way to hasten the process- like shrunken apples heads. in the oven or something...
Bean, you got the gears in my brain turning with this one :) It seems that there is a way to do it in the oven! http://youtu.be/dcFNJaEKEwA
Mine are already shriveled and rotted with sad faces.
