What is this that meets us in the dark? 
Rembrandt knew, his brush
careful not to touch it, illuminating only
the more  palatable parts of ourselves. 
Leaving the thing
to lie in wait.

    I had a friend in high school who would talk about Rembrandt like he was a rock star. He was/still is his favorite artist.
