The Night Train

The Night Train

Riding the night train,
the landscape glides past your window.
The stars leave no hiding place,
shadows concede
what they've held so very close.

A creature is spied and then lost
while the trees remain silent,
refuse your questions.

Beside you your companion turns fitfully in sleep.
You lay your hand on his brow
while high above
the watchful moon waits.
